You’re here beautiful girl and we couldn’t be happier! Mommy started showing early signs (Link said the last two visits that you were well engaged, ready to come out and head down) that you probably wanted to come out before your tentative planned birthday on 5/5. Mommy went into labor on 4/30 and we had contractions all night but nothing consistent until “wake up time” on 5/1. We called grandma around 7 to ask her to come that day instead of 5/2. She thought mom was feeling anxious or having false labor but agreed to come. By the time we returned from breakfast and running errands, you were continuing to show mom signs that it was time to vacate. Dad put your big brother down for a nap, called Jim and Madaleine who came to attend to E. When we arrived, mommy was 2cm with contractions 3-4 mins apart. One hour later in the OR, about 6cm with contractions 1-2 mins apart.
Daddy announced your sex to mommy. Only he paused for what felt like forever and verified with the OB (Dr. Kumar) who was on call for Dt. Link. When daddy said you were a girl, mommy started crying with joy as she had been convinced Everett was having a brother! You came into the world at 22 inches, 8 pds, 12 oz at 2:54 on 5/1/16.
You spent some time, maybe 15 mins with the pediatric nurse while mommy waited for the OB to close. Mommy asked and was able to get the staff to do skin to skin in the OR and you laid on mommys chest for a brief period. They noticed you had some fluid in your lungs and after some time, decided that you would need to go to the nursery (with daddy at your side) for further testing. By the time mommy reached recovery, daddy was back downstairs with you within 15 mins. You were breathing better and ready to nurse. Like your brother, you initially took and fed like a champ.
Your brother is enamoured with you. He watches over you and proudly comments what you’re doing. One of the first things he said upon meeting you was “she’s beautiful.” He likes touching your head and feeling your hair. He wants to hold you, sit next to you, look at you. He loves his baby sister.
Everyone loves your name. Lydia Louise (middle is a tribute to great grandma Lois).
Daddy says you’re a classy lady in reference to your loud baby toots. He also says you are pleasantly dull which is a compliment to your mostly laid back personality.
We love you so much and cannot wait for the many adventures ahead.
